Playdough Recipes

Playdough, simple to make, fun to play with and so much cheaper than what is in the stores. I know with my kids they LOVE to make their very own playdough. We like to scent and colors ours as well.
So it is your lucky day. Today I’m going to show you how to make one of my favorite playdough recipes. Plus I will be sharing another one. The first one is one that I will show you is one you need to cook and the other is one is a no-cook playdough.
plus I will have a printable playdough recipe card for you to print and keep.

Playdough #1
Total Time to make: 20-30min

Gather your supplies
– Flour
– Salt
– Cream of Tarter
– Oil
– Food coloring *Optional
– Kool-aid for scent *Optional
– 1 Cup measuring cup
– Large pan
– Spoon for cooking with “smaller is better, since it gets really hard to stir the playdough in the pan after awhile” I found a slotted metal serving spoon worked best.

You will need
4 cups of flour
2 cups of Salt
4 cups of water
4 tablespoons of Oil
2 Tablespoons of Cream of Tarter

Mix all the ingredients above in a large pan. *Except for the food coloring and Kool-Aid, We will be adding those later. Cook on low heat until thick and not sticky. If it is still sticky cook it a little longer. If you cook it to long it will be dry, if this happens add a little oil.

You will then stir while on low heat

Starting to get a chunky

Half way there. *by the way that spoon was way to big, and I had to down grade to a slotted metal serving spoon.

Nice and thick, oh and did I say heavy? Notice the metal slotted spoon?

Now put it in a bowl and brought it to the table for my boys to help add color and scent

knead it several times so it is soft and there isn’t any chunks

Separate it into 6 large balls

Add your food coloring and drink mix at this step and knead some more until the color is evenly dispersed throughout the dough.

All of our colors are done and the boys were so happy to start making all sorts of fun things. They played for 2 hours. Ahhhh

Playdough #2 non-cook

First Gather your supplies
– Flour
– Salt

– 1 Cup Salt
– 1 Tablespoon of oil
– 1/2 – 1 cup of warm water * Not to hot or it will be too sticky

You will want to add your flour, salt together in the large bowl and mix. Then in your small bowl add the water, oil and food coloring. mix together very well. Then take your water, oil mixture and add it into the large bowl with the flour and mix/knead together
