How To: Slip n’ Slide

There is nothing like running and sliding on your butt or stomach on a piece of plastic that is wet and sudsy. So much fun! There are countless designs, lengths and widths that you can do. Just remember You can make your slip n’ slide as long and as wide as you want. You can have it lay on flat ground or be more adventures and have it go down a small hill. I do not recommend the dangerous route of having it go down a steep slope into water!

Here are some different ways you can make your very own slip n’ slide this summer

Simple Slip n’ slide

With this simple version you will need:

  • Plastic 4mil thick. The thicker the plastic the longer it will last.
  • Duct Tape
  • Water hose
  • Water
  • Scissors

Now the wider the plastic the better and you can lay down as much as you want for length.

This is simple because all you need to do is open the plastic and cut it accordingly to how long you want it. Lay it out on the ground. Duct tape the water hose to the plastic. Turn the water on and grab your kids for some slip n’ slide fun.

Slip n’ slide with sides

In order to make this one you will need a few more items. This Slip n’ slide is safer for kids because they won’t go flying off of the plastic and onto the grass.

To make this you will need the following:

  • 4mil Plastic
  • Duct tape
  • Fun noodles “pool noodles”
  • Water hose
  • Water

Take your plastic and lay it out flat. Put your fun noodles down the sides leaving enough plastic on the sides to fold over the fun noodles and duct tape down. Once you have duct taped the plastic over the fun noodles. Flip your plastic slip n’ slide over. Turn the water on and enjoy a safer slip n’ slide. “You can also place a few fun noodles at the bottom of the slip n’ slide to stop those extra speeders.

Slip n’ Slide Extreme

Now this slip n’ slide is NOT meant for small children or children period.

This slip n’ slide is fantastic when you have a lot of adults who need something to do that different.

You will need the following  to make this extreme slip n’ slide:

  • 4mil plastic or thicker
  • Duct tape
  • Hill or slope
  • Water hose
  • Water
  • Something at the end to slow you down or stop you. That or make the plastic longer on a flat surface.
  • Stakes

Once you have opened and set your plastic down on the slope or hill. Put stakes at each corner at the top of slip n’ slide. Duct tape the water hose to the slip n’ slide. Grab your buddies and have some fun!

Here is a picture of our slip n’ slide. We did a simple small short one on a little slope.

Now there are some things you can do to add to your slip n’ slide to make it more slippery and more fun. You can do one of the below or all.

  • Dish soap “yes the bubbles make is super slippery and lots of fun”
  • Water sprinkler. if you are lucky and you have 2 water hook ups you can add 2 sprinklers to your slip n’ slide to make it more wet.
  • You add hay bails at the bottom of your slip slide with plastic draped over to help create a pool like stopping point. ONLY DO THIS WITH ADULTS!
  • Create a mud puddle “Granted this might just happen naturally”
  • Bring the inflatable tubes out and use those to go down the slip n’ slide
  • If you don’t have plastic laying around you can use a tarp instead

Question of the day?

Have you ever made your own slip n’ slide? What were things you did to make it more fun?

**Pictures posted above are not my own but came from various locations on-line. except for the last picture. Which is taken of our eldest son on his slip n’ slide***
