Homemade Garlic Salt
In our house we go through a lot of garlic salt. I love the stuff. It goes in just about everything. Mash potatoes, hamburgers and just about any pasta dish. “Spaghetti just isn’t the same without it.”
So I decided to make my own and save ourselves some money
In order to make your very own you will need the following:
- A container with holes in the top and a lid. Make sure it is large enough to hold 1 cup of salt. You can use an old spice container or you can do what we did. Use an old Parmesan container. After using up one of our containers of Parmesan cheese. I took the label off and washed it really good.
- Sea Salt or Table Salt
- Garlic powder. “If you feel really adventurous. Cut and dice up some cloves of garlic and dry it in a dehydration. Once dry crush it into fine powder.”
- 1 cup measuring cup
- 1 tablespoon measuring spoon
Once you have everything together. Put 2 tablespoons of garlic powder in your container along with 1 cup of sea salt or table salt. Put the lid on the container and make sure it closed tight. Shake the container to mix the ingredients together. Make sure to mark your container with Garlic Salt and the date you made it.
*** Now I will let you know that in this awful humidity that we get. Ours cakes. If this happens to your homemade garlic salt just shake it until all the lumps are gone. Make sure that lid is tight or you may have garlic salt raining down on you :-). Yes this did happen to me and my husband happen to be in the kitchen at the time and we had a very good laugh.***
Have you ever made your own dry seasoning mixture before?
I would to hear what kinds you have made if you have made any.
